Rochester Community and Technical College offers several computer science program options. These options include an Associate in Science degree in Computer Information Systems, an Associate in Science degree in Computer Science, an Associate in Applied Science degree in Cybersecurity, and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Bioinformatics Foundations.
Program Options
The Bioinformatics Foundations AS offers students a powerful Computer Science option with an emphasis in Biology and Chemistry: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Science degree with course credits that are articulated with Winona State University Rochester’s Computer Science – Bioinformatics bachelor’s degree. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this degree and transferring to Winona State University Rochester will enter with junior-year status with courses applying to the Computer Science – Bioinformatics bachelor’s degree program.
The Computer Information Systems AS offers students a powerful Computer Science option with an emphasis in Accounting and Economics: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Science degree with course credits that are articulated with Winona State University Rochester’s Computer Information System bachelor’s degree. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this degree and transferring to Winona State University Rochester will enter with junior-year status with courses applying to the Computer Information System bachelor’s degree program.
The Computer Science Transfer Pathway AS offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Science degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated Computer Science bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to a Minnesota State system university will enter with junior-year status with all courses applying to the designated bachelor’s degree programs.
Tailored to prepare students for industry-standard CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA CySA+ exams, blending theoretical acumen with practical skills. Whether your goal is to become a cybersecurity analyst or to continue academic pursuits, this program provides the essential toolkit for both career readiness and academic advancement.
The Information Technology AAS offers students an emerging Computer Science option with an emphasis in Data Science. This program prepares students to work in information technology. Students will engage in activities and learn how to select appropriate domains for data ingestion, develop solutions for cleaning data and requesting data from these domains, and integrate these solutions to identify visualization opportunities incorporating dash-boarding techniques. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this degree will be ready for a job in an information technology field or transfer into a bachelor's program at a Minnesota university.
